I don’t know… you know.

. . .

(3*guitar-loop + 1*elec-pno-loop) * processing-with-SC3 = this thing, enjoy.

attempting to distance myself from the sound, i think there’s something to be said for emotion minus the emotional ties.

. . . “you could call me a man of the cloth; without the cloth.” . . .

. . .

these varying synthetic sounds originated from the Kinky Beep software which I’ve used over the years to generate varyingly complex sounds from scratch. It has pretty much disappeared for good, now that I’ve lost my copy of it and The Internets had lost their copies years ago.

in addition, the basic synth sounds were heavily processed with Ableton and a couple of my favorite Super Destroy FX plug-ins, which i’ve yet to give proper credit to after all the use they’ve provided over the years (thanks guys!).

underneath the repetition of tones is an acoustic guitar recording that was made directly to computer, live and improvised, then mildly processed as well.

the wherewithall

just a little looping back from the grave; tell yr friends, its awesome.

. . .

fiddled around with various chords overprocessed and looped, with a few single note melodies sprinkled on top for flavor

all post processing on the sound files occurred in Ableton. i feel a little guilty for using this almost exclusively nowadays, but you gotta make due with what you have, and for the moment, its abt all i gots

dog.eared or, one last chance

[…] this is a dramatic dog-eared testimonial for every empty bottle in town; leave ‘em all twisting in the wind […]

i think this one is fun with both headphones and a large and loud speaker system…

. . .

this piece began with the acoustic guitar part recorded direct through the computer’s internal microphone. the first section is the higher frequencies and static heavily processed, followed by the actual guitar part muddled up and mixed with itself in various ways.

everything ends with a resurrected, short acoustic bass loop that gets almost totally lost in the mix of reverb and silliness.

all post processing on the sound files occurred in Ableton.

mine is missing

im not really tied to this title; i think this one maybe should just be Untitled, but i cant decide.
i was also debating: .never gonna (be)fall.

oh and i think for the first time this one might be better suited for use with headphones, rather than the usual ‘really loud in a car’

. . .

all sounds originated in the acoustic guitar recorded directly to the computer through an internal microphone. all processing and layering done in Ableton.
talk about restricting yrself, eh?

the clouds looked like mountains; some of them were

the old becoming new, or vice versa

. . .

these were older audio files of live recordings i recently found and reworked in a different way from how i had last left them (does that mean something?)

the cut-up piano was cut up using Super_Collider and i think the original layer of guitar delay was created with that as well. again, things were mixed and effected using Ableton. pretty simple actually

the irony of crickets

this piece is dedicated to a season’s changing and collaborative poetry

. . .

this originated with three or four guitar loops created with an actual delay pedal, then stretched to varying degrees in Peak just like in the good old days, and finally tossed into Ableton and layered to obscurity.

an odd weight to have lifted

this one is for MamaRain, because she knew that these are all better real loud in a car, and without it having been recomended that way, too. i’ve delayed this audio-post for her birthday.

. . .

[[ i knew a girl who knew a boy who would have suggested drums on top of this piece : : : and he would be right. ]]

this is a simple piece for a simple time (ha ha!, these are the jokes, kids).

for now, i’ll choose to think of the color pink, gotham city and falling off cliffs (or just biscuits-and-gravy-admission-fees, maybe)

. . .

a not-so-standard guitar melody (very rare in these parts) run through Ableton effects. simplcitiy is its own excuse, tell your friends, period.

i like it.

and as always i hope you do, too.

one or two things you ought to know

no comment, if you know what i mean.

. . .

i’ve been sitting on this one for a while and finally put the last touches on it. the basic sounds are a combination of Korg synth originals and Super_Collider generated sounds. after that they were all mixed and matched in Ableton with various plugin effects.

hint: theres some low tones that yr computer might not pick up, so maybe headphones, eh? tho, i prefer the car stereo

america west is decadent and depraved

its been a while, and i needed to sit down with some instrument and record something, anything. i like this one loud, but then again, they are all supposed to be played loud.

. . .

this piece is a simple improv with the acoustic guitar sitting in front of the computer. the original part was then tossed into Ableton and attacked with a pretty standard fare of effects and general jerkiness. some of the effects are due to the crappy microphone i used to record the gtr - but we’re used to that by now, right guys?

this piece lives in that nether world of not really being “brand new” exactly, but also had not been posted to the ol’ myspace blog; so call it what you will in that sense, i promise not to argue abt it. its a good hearted piece that was the result of a long night and lots of energy and tea, most likely topped with a little rum, so there that is.

this one goes out to the Sacred (and spray-painted) Cow.

. . .

my memory of this piece’s technical birth is a little foggy, but i can tell from the sounds that there is at least one pilfered sample that had been run through the The Method gauntlet. also i think a majority of the processed sounds originated in and passed through my own personal Super_Collider rough housing. then there are the improv bass and Korg melodies, and it all got mixed and mashed up in Ableton. see the pattern?
