P. S. Burton
Conversation with the Moon*

Man- life's a dirty joke with a bad punch line

Moon- you're tellin' me

Man- I'm gonna, I'm gonna fly away

Moon- where to?

Man- I think I'm gonna go near you...the moon

Moon- I am inadequate

Man- How So? You shine so bright.

Moon- I feel rather dim

Man- so dim are you; and so am I. oh, where should we go?

Moon- a light house, perhaps? Or a frying pan, to evenness
We should run from everything but promise to keep in touch.

Man- but won't you miss the stars and the earth...and I will miss...

Moon- What will you miss? Can you say?
Will we really miss anything, or just say we do to make ourselves feel better

Man- I think, I think I will miss you

Moon- then we'll never say goodbye

Man- but your shine...your shine...I will miss your shine

Moon- but I don't shine, I just reflect

Man- Oh, you do shine

Moon- how do I shine? I am a fake, a phony, I don't shine, and I steal shine
And sell it back as cheap glow

Man- well you shine down on me when i'm feeling blue and down
By the pond your shine makes the frogs sing so no fake
       Or phony are you

Moon- sex makes the frogs sing. Most of what's romantic and pure,
Is just misplaced credit, all the courtship and love in the
World is just the pursuit of carnal pleasures.

Man- then you're not my shine. You are a fake. And my existence is a lie.

Moon- no, your existence is true, it's just illuminated in a lie

Man- but your shine, your shine gave me something to believe in.

Moon- believe in something else, kid
