Emphasize
             sex drive

A modern girl’s prescription
             refills not included
                          fill your father’s void

read the bottle
             mind the dosage

My guilty pleasure
to endure your version of shock
                                                                                           therapy

Numb limbs behind the dunes
they are so much bigger than you
             sucking oxygen through a straw
with a hole in it where daddy
                                                                                           should be

You throw your heart
watch it skip through a dirty puddle
             peer behind corners
                          hoping for a wet shoe

What a clever muse!

What were you thinking
your head in the oven on all fours like a mule
             gluttoness at her water trough

Was it as refreshing?

I wrote about my father too
             I hate him the way
             I hate you

Could you hear your children’s screams for mommy
who cooked away daddy’s heavy foot
his contagious green toe that smeared
                          delicate as a butter knife
                                       all over your fading vessel
                                         sailing you away from here

I wrote about my father too
             I love him
The way I love you

My heart skips a beat
             I creep around corners
             In my water proof shoes
